Job overview

The National aHUS Service is a highly specialised service, which coordinates the management of patients with this rare disease. It is the only service of this kind in the country offering advice, tests and treatment to both adults and children in England and Scotland. The aHUS service delivers a fully integrated care pathway to patients referred to us on a shared care basis.

The aHUS service spans adults, paediatric and transitional nephrology care.

Referrals to the aHUS service average 300 per year. Some of these patients will receive lifelong treatment and remain under the shared care of the aHUS service. A large cohort of these patients will receive genetic testing along with family members and counselling.

The Clinical Administrator role is to assist in coordination of the administration service for the aHUS nursing team and to the whole of the aHUS service as well as dealing with internal and external agencies in all elements of patient care. This post would be suitable for an individual with excellent organisation/interpersonal and administration skills.

The ideal candidate for this role would have experience and familiarity with using e-Record and undertaking medical secretarial duties.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide an efficient administration and secretarial service to the aHUS nursing team and to the senior clinical team, as required.
  • Coordinate booking tests with patients, their local team and other healthcare professionals.
  • Make decisions and take action on matters of both a routine and non-routine nature on behalf of the aHUS team.
  • Communicate verbally, via email or telephone with patients and their families on a variety of matters at the request of the nursing and clinical team.
  • Participate in gathering of statistical information and analysis for both internal and external agencies under the supervision of the aHUS team.
  • Obtain investigation results including blood test from internal and external sources.
  • Input data into specialised local database.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Working within a team of administrative staff to provide a comprehensive support service to Consultants, Medical Staff and other clinical members of their team e.g. Specialist Nurses and Therapists
  • Communicates with patients regarding appointments and admissions at the request of the medical team
  • Provide cover for Team Leader within your administration team as required
  • Cover Clinical Administrator posts Trust wide as required
