This is a full-time fixed term post to cover maternity leave.

This post is based at our Breast Screening Unit at Broadgreen Hospital, which provides Breast Screening to women in Liverpool Sefton and Knowsley.

Previous NHS experience would be an advantage, but full training in the relevant systems will be provided.

You may be required to work on the Breast Screening mobile units which provide Breast Screening to women in Liverpool Sefton and Knowsley.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a team member of Liverpool Breast Screening Clerical Team with the aim of maintaining a high standard of service to patients and staff.
  • To undertake general clerical duties and reception work.
  • To be responsible for all patients arriving in the Department, ensuring their examinations are progressed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • To work closely with radiographers to make day to day arrangements for appointments
  • To provide an efficient and effective appointment service adhering to Breast Screening appointment protocols and procedures, along with carrying out associated clerical duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES

Reception:

  • To check pre-booked lists prior to start of clinic.
  • Ensure all paperwork and x-ray packets are available.
  • To show a sympathetic and caring approach towards both clients and patients and families/friends when carrying out reception duties.
  • To welcome and assist clients, patients, relative/friends and other visitors on arrival in the Department and inform appropriate staff
  • To communicate effectively and promptly to all enquiries in a discreet manner, with empathy and sensitivity.
  • Provide cover at the Breast Unit at the Royal, or on either of the two mobile units based in the community, if/when necessary.
  • To be aware of the needs of the clients in the waiting area and inform the radiographic staff.
  • To be responsible for entering and updating accurate information on the NHSBSP system.
  • Closing clinics and checking attendees. Updating the computer system.
  • Preparation of future invitation letters.
  • To maintain accurate information on film packets and paperwork.

Clerical:

  • The routine operation of agreed appointment systems and procedures.
  • To fully document clients on the computer system.
  • To assist in maintaining the filing system
  • To pull previous mammograms from files
  • To pull mammogram packets for booked clinic appointments, prepare paperwork and labels and request off site film packets.
  • To assist the Screening Unit Manager as required.
  • To provide support to the Deputy Screening Unit Manager and assist with work associated with investigations to clients.
  • Input data onto the NHSBSP computer relating to routine results and produce the letters in accordance with the ‘Right Result’s Protocol’.

Administration:

  • Photocopying.
  • Check, and update, screening history onto the computer system.
  • General filing.
  • Issuing invitations for screening to clients.
  • Prepare boxes of forthcoming work for the couriers to deliver to the mobile screening units.
  • Send stationery and stores to the mobile units, via the courier service.

Communications:

  • To liaise with Consultants, Radiologists, Breast Care Nurses, and Radiographers as required.
  • Check returned appointment letters to ensure the correct information is held for each lady at all times.
  • To deal with telephone enquiries from members of the public, GP practices, NHS staff etc.
  • To alter appointments on call/recall system on request of client, in line with agreed operations systems.
  • To liaise with other Breast Screening Units or Hospitals as required to request, or send films and paperwork.
  • Prepare and send GP reports, DNA cards and registration changes to the appropriate agencies.
