We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our Children in Crisis Liaison team within the Paediatric department at UHCW.

We are looking to recruit a motivated registered nurse with experience in caring for Children in Crisis. The candidate must have effective communication skills to be able to foster efficient relationships with our Children and Young People in Crisis, alongside their families, whilst also providing support and education for our staff.

The successful candidate will provide liaison support as well as clinical and educational support for staff caring for our Children in Crisis across UHCW. The post holder in collaboration with the other Children in Crisis team members will play a major role in identifying and assessing the Professional Development needs of staff in relation to Children in Crisis and will be responsible for co-ordinating and participating in the delivery of appropriate training programmes.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

We have a supportive and welcoming team which includes a second member of the CIC and a designated Learning Disability & Autism specialist nurse who you will work closely alongside. The unit also has a supportive Ward Management team, Paediatric Modern Matron, Paediatric Lead Nurse and a Paediatric Practice Education team. Together they will ensure you receive the support you require throughout the recruitment process as well as overseeing your training and induction requirements to enable you to carry out your role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Professional:

  • Promote a positive attitude towards Children in Crisis, challenging negative attitudes at all levels.
  • Contribute to relevant service development.
  • Actively engage in clinical supervision/ debriefing for self and other

Clinical:

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the code of Professional Conduct.
  • Work clinically alongside nurses who are new starters, newly qualified or require specific support in relation to Children in Crisis
  • Promote best practice in line with current paediatric national and local guidelines
  • Promote best practice in ensuring NMC Record Keeping Standards.
  • Act as a clinical role model promoting the professional image of nursing within the Trust and ensuring that nursing practice is in accordance with the Trust’s policies and procedures and statutory nursing bodies’ legislation.
  • Establish good working relationships with multidisciplinary colleagues within the Trust.
  • Maintain own clinical competency in line with the NMC Code of Professional standards of practice for nurses, midwifes and nursing associates
  • Available to be rostered for a minimum of one clinical shift per month, this may be increased dependent on service need

Management:

  • Advise on service activities and controlling risks as appropriate.
  • Provide clear guidance, supervision, and support the process to monitor and evaluate appropriate professional development plans for staff as appropriate

Audit and review:

  • Assist in the audit, monitoring and evaluation of clinical interventions and practice as appropriate.
  • Assist with educational events for disseminating results of service evaluation and audit.
  • Provide regular activity reports as appropriate.

Education and Training:

  • Maintain systems to monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness.

  • Support ward based staff in managing Children in Crisis
  • Continue to develop and deliver structured training programmes (Safety Interventions, ligature training) to mitigate risk assessments, provide de-escalation techniques, maintain safety and enhancing awareness.
  • Assist in identifying and developing an appropriate training needs analysis for the paediatric nursing team.
  • Ensure training needs documentation systems are maintained.
  • Assist in plan, co-ordinating and participating in delivery of training programmes to address the Paediatric Nursing Teams professional development requirements
  • Liaise with the Senior Paediatric Nursing Team to establish specific service need requirements
  • Maintain systems to ensure feedback from study days and courses to cascade knowledge within the team.
  • Where appropriate work towards shared learning and development opportunists for Paediatric nurses within the Trust.
  • Take on and carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of the post as designated by the Group Director of Nursing / Lead Nurse / Modern Matron.
