Our unit provides high-quality care for newborns requiring specialist support, including those born prematurely or with complex medical needs. As a Band 6 Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in delivering safe, effective, and family-centred care. You will work closely with senior sisters, a multidisciplinary team, support junior staff,  coordinate care and contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide expert nursing care to neonates requiring special care, including respiratory support, feeding support, and monitoring of vital signs.
  • Attend the labour ward and operating theatre for crash calls or when babies require admission to the neonatal unit.
  • Act as shift in-charge when allocated.
  • Lead clinical decision-making and contribute to multidisciplinary care planning.
  • Administer medications, manage intravenous lines, and perform neonatal resuscitation when required.
  • Support education and development of Band 5 nurses, student nurses, and healthcare assistants.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise with paediatricians, midwives, and allied health professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Uphold infection control, safeguarding, and patient safety protocols.
