Post 2: 28.75 hrs, permanent

Applications are invited to apply for a Band 6 Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department at Borders General Hospital. This role is working within a small team of other Band 6 Charge Nurses and a Senior Charge Nurse. Experience in Emergency Nursing is essential, with post registration experience within an Emergency Department or at Charge Nurse Level with transferable skills would also be advantageous.

The role involves being the senior nursing decision maker on shift and leading the team. A key role is supporting and developing the Registered Nurses and Healthcare Support Workers in the department and deputising for the Senior Charge Nurse when required. The Department is part of the Scottish Trauma Network being the first port of call for stabilisation for the South of Scotland escalating care to either Edinburgh Major Trauma Centre or to Newcastle. We also receive all speciality groups including paediatrics. This is a busy, fast paced environment with an unpredictable workload so being able to adapt at fast pace is vital. The Department receives anything from 80 to over 120 patients per day, roughly 30,000 attendees per year.

The successful candidate would be required to work a day/night rotation pattern including weekends.
