This role will suit a team player who is also able to act on their own initiative and prioritise their workload with flexibility to meet the daily operational demands.

The role involves dealing directly with patients, clinicians and visitors to the cardiology department, performing a range of cardiac non-invasive diagnostic tests and developing skills for ECG interpretation and training/competency assessment for other healthcare professional learning how to perform ECGs.

In addition, the role includes using  hospital digital systems and electronic patient record systems, MS Teams, basic excel databases and supporting waiting list management, so good IT skills are essential.

  • Provide a high standard of patient care at all times, ensuring patients are communicated with and understand the procedural requirements in relation to the non-invasive diagnostic procedures.
  • Recognise waveforms and measurements of the normal and abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) and escalate to a senior physiologist where appropriate.
  • To give the patients clear instructions and advice relating to the procedure, including but not limited to, the period of monitoring, care of the equipment, documenting of activity and symptoms throughout the monitoring period utilising patient diary arrangements.
  • Ensure accurate record keeping within the departmental electronic system and forward any hard copies to the requesting specialist.
  • Assist in prioritising own duties as well as sharing responsibility for the day to day organisation and service needs in role specific tasks i.e ECG, BP and Ambulatory Monitoring.
