Advanced Specialist Pharmacist – Cancer Clinical Trials Band 8a

At UHNM Research and Innovation is integral to patient care and Pharmacy provides a key role in that vision. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Pharmacist to join our highly regarded Pharmacy Clinical Trials Team working across the two sites of UHNM.

The cancer clinical trials team manage a broad portfolio of both commercial and non-commercial trials across oncology and haematology. UHNM has an ambitious 5 Year Strategy for Research and Innovation across all specialities and Pharmacy has an integral role in this strategy.

You will liaise with the R&I team, the wider multi-disciplinary teams, trial sponsors and pharmacy to ensure safe and efficient delivery of clinical trials in accordance with regulations.

Location: Work base Cancer Centre Pharmacy, Royal Stoke University Hospital with cross site working at County Hospital

The Cancer Centre at the Royal Stoke site consists of a 40 bedded in-patient ward and a dedicated four bedded Emergency Admissions Bay for clinical assessment of toxicities. There is a 27 chaired out-patient area and four linear accelerators. The County Cancer Unit has a nurse led 16 chaired, four bedded out-patient day unit.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead and manage the pharmaceutical aspects of cancer clinical trials within UHNM.
  • Work closely with UHMN Research and Innovation and other stakeholders to ensure the safe, effective delivery of Cancer Clinical trials across the Integrated Care Board (ICB)
  • Co-ordinate delivery of cancer clinical trials across UHNM in accordance with current UK Clinical Trials Regulations and all updates, Good Clinical practice (GCP), guidelines and departmental procedures, ensuring provision of a high-quality service.
  • Manage the cancer clinical trials team and ensure all relevant staff are trained in the delivery of clinical trials.
  • Work with the non-cancer clinical trials team to ensure standardisation of processes.
  • Provide a clinical pharmacy service to Cancer Centre Clinics and Wards across UHNM sites.
  • Ensure that all relevant information relating to cancer clinical trials are incorporated into electronic prescribing and medicine administration (EPMA) systems in place across UHNM.
  • Support the management of Compassionate use, Early Access Medicines Schemes, Project Orbis, Free of Charge schemes and specialist medicines within cancer services where appropriate.

You will be supported by the wider team and actively encouraged to undertake further training and studies including, non-medical prescribing. You will also be expected to forge links with specialist centres and train other members of staff as you will already have cancer experience.
