Job overview

This is an opportunity for an experienced counsellor to join our Cancer and Psychological Support (CaPS) Service. You will be responsible for providing counselling support to patients and carers who are impacted by a cancer diagnosis; from diagnosis onward we support patients and carers as they navigate their cancer journey.

You will be based in Prince Philip Hospital covering the Carmarthenshire county of our Health Board and will require experience working autonomously within acute/ community settings and homeworking. Furthermore, the applicant will need to be willing to travel to other sites across the Health Board within all the three counties of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion if required. CaPS offers talking therapy via a blended model of engagement, such as online, telephone, text and face to face counselling supporting individuals one-on-one and in group settings.

The CaPS service offers a supportive team environment where you will be an integral member of the team, and assist proactively in the ongoing development of the service.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be required to work autonomously whilst also supporting and being a proactive member of the team. We offer flexible working arrangements in return we ask for your flexibility in meeting service need. We provide a high level of supervision and caseload management support in light of the complexities of supporting patients and their carers.

The applicant will be required to undertake assessments to ascertain client suitability, alongside providing one- to- one counselling support and group facilitation.  Evidenced experience and understanding of cancer care and its delivery or working with life-limiting illness is essential.  You will be required to adopt a hybrid approach, working in both clinical and community settings, and being established at homeworking. However, you will be prioritising face-to-face client work in Llanelli area.  You will be required to access, input and maintain digital records. IT skills and an ability to navigate IT systems is essential in this role. Alongside, evidencing digital counselling practice with clients.
