Job overview

The post holder will be working with a large multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, social workers and psychologists, psychotherapists and creative therapists. The team consists of approximately 42 wte split as 34 wte clinicians and 8 wte admin staff.

The service receives approximately 3704 referrals per year, new and re-referrals and 2933 records where a referral allocation exists for 2022. All new cases are seen first by one of the Multidisciplinary team for a mental health assessment. Following this the young person may be seen for a secondary assessment by a psychiatrist where there are concerns e.g., eating disorder, psychosis (under 16 year) moderate or severe depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, severe self-harm or complex cases.   In all cases where a psychiatric opinion is sought the cases will be brought to one of four Multi-Disciplinary (MDT) weekly meetings.

It is expected that the Consultant will have approximately 2-3 patient related contacts per clinical session. These may include review appointments (face to face or remotely), therapeutic treatment appointment, Multiagency meetings or CPA reviews, consultations with other clinicians or professionals about specific patients, clinical supervision regarding specific patients.

Consultant Offices are at Kimberworth Place (Rotherham), The Crystal Building (Doncaster), and St Nicholas House (Scunthorpe). The majority of non-remote clinical work will be done from these bases.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant Psychiatrist for CAMHS will take an active part in the clinical work of the team and play a lead role in the development of the service.

The specific duties include:

  • The post holder will, along with their Consultant colleagues, provide Consultant psychiatric leadership to the CAMHS Service.
  • The post holder will offer regular consultation to the multi-disciplinary team both through the team MDT case discussions and on an individual basis.
  • The post holder will assess, contribute to the formulation of care plans and treat where appropriate young people and their families where there is a question of psychiatric diagnosis or where the case is very complex.
  • The post holder may also be required to assess in cases of high risk.
  • The post holder will work with the MDT in the ongoing treatment and management of cases where Consultant Psychiatric skills are required.
  • The post holder will liaise with other agencies and professionals to ensure the wellbeing of the young person.  This includes the processes of Child Protection and the Care Programme Approach when appropriate.
  • All cases will be case managed by a member of the MDT.
