Job overview

Oxleas Tri-borough CAMHS has an exciting opportunity to join the service in Greenwich, Bromley or Bexley as a Recruit to Train Trainee, part of the Health Education England (HEE) funded Recruit to Train Programme in partnership with the Anna Freud Centre, University College London & Kings College London. The post-holder will be training on the Children & Young People Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP IAPT) Course in the modality of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & carrying out clinical work in the service to complement their studies & use their newly developed skills.

We are seeking highly motivated & enthusiastic mental health practitioners to work & train within our service. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide cognitive behavioural interventions for children & young people using an evidence-based approach. The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds & ages, using interpreters when necessary & should be committed to equality, diversity & inclusion.

This is a training position & so all candidates will need to apply for both the trainee role with our organisation & the KCL Post Graduate Diploma in Child & Young Person IAPT Therapy at the same time, in order to be shortlisted for interview. Please complete your University Application at the same time as the job application using the KCL Application Guidance supplied.

Main duties of the job

As a CAMHS clinician in training, candidates will work within one of the multidisciplinary CAMHS teams carrying out evidence-based assessment and intervention in conjunction with their training, in addition to care coordination and contributing to service delivery within the team as required. This is a permanent post with this training year funded by HEE. After successful completion of the course you will continue your employment within the service using the new skills you have developed.

This role will be best suited for applicants that are able to balance a busy work & study schedule. You will be an employee at the service but also enrolled on a Postgraduate Diploma course. As this is a Postgraduate level training, you will be required to study & perform at academic level. Applicants must be prepared to work towards their studies outside of protected study time (such as on weekends & after work).

Protected study time or teaching days are typically two days a week during term (with possibility of extra university days at the beginning) & will be a mixture of in person & online sessions. Applicants must be willing to travel into London to attend their lectures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

CAMHS is a large community mental health service for children and young people 0-18 presenting with a broad range of mental health difficulties. Across 5 specialist pathways, multidisciplinary teams deliver evidence-based interventions and support to children, young people and their families – working closely with education, social care and other partner agencies.  Greenwich CAMHS also provides mental health advice, support and intervention within local schools, including a Mental Health in Schools Team and clinical in-reach to services across children’s social care aimed at prevention and early identification of emotional well-being difficulties. CAMHS has embedded the principles of CYP-IAPT within its service provision. The service sits within culturally diverse Greenwich and offers a rich and stimulating environment from where to work.  There is a supportive management structure and regular clinical supervision and opportunities for continuing professional development.

Oxleas Trust has consistently achieved high ratings in quality assessments, patient and staff surveys with a culture of supporting staff whilst providing excellent services within a robust clinical governance framework. There is a programme of work underway ‘Building a Fairer Oxleas’, committed to making changes within the organisations that have a positive impact for all staff, but in particular BAME staff, disabled staff and LGBT+ staff.

As these are training positions, please be aware that this is a dual application process where you must be employed in a Recruit to Train funded job to also receive a place on the course, and vice-versa. If you are ineligible for the University Course, we will be unable to be offer the role. If you withdraw from an employment offer but you have accepted a university offer, you will be unable to join the course. You must apply to the course at the same time as this job.

Please note in this instance the training course is not optional; the roles are dependent on meeting all course requirements. Applicants for this training at KCL will need to be available to start by the 13th of January at the latest (with the course starting on the 20th January).
