We are looking for an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to join our team

You will be working with us to provide a service to cancer patients to ensure that they receive their results in a timely manner.

Additional working pattern details: May include Saturday working

Main duties of the job

You will have HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist or be in the process of completing your IBMS Registration Portfolio. Ideally you will have experience of working in a busy Histology Department.

You will work in all areas of the Histology Laboratory and be involved in provision of the technical service.

You will participate in provision of Biomedical Scientist cut-up as well as routine areas such as tissue sectioning and staining.

You will rotate through the specialist areas of the laboratory such as Immunocytochemistry and Molecular Pathology

You will be ensuring that the Department meets cancer targets and you will need to have experience of working in a team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will, amongst other duties, be required to:

Work in all sections of the department on a rotational basis

Participate in the reception, preparation and documentation of specimens for Histology in accordance with laboratory policies and protocols

Participate in specimen processing and the production of histology sections for microscopic examination. This includes cut up, embedding, microtomy, staining and microscopy

Participate in simple Biomedical Scientist cut-up

Rotate through all sections of the department including the Special Techniques area, which covers Immunocytochemistry and Molecular Pathology

Input test requests, including tests, patient demographics, requesting clinician and location for report onto the laboratory computer system in a timely fashion in order to maintain efficient workflow and laboratory turnaround times and taking into account the urgency of the request

Participate in the training and teaching of trainee Biomedical Scientists, MLAs and other healthcare professionals
