The Benign Urology Nurse Specialist team have an exciting opportunity to recruit a motivated & enthusiastic individual to the role of Benign Urology Nurse Specialist.

There will be a strong development component to this role so training will be provided in line with the needs of the post-holder and changing demands of the service. Activities will include assessment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), Urodynamic assessment and the management of common bladder conditions.

IMPORTANT: Please note this role involves cross-site working; however, your main base will be either York or Scarborough. Please clearly state in your application which base you wish to be considered for.

Main duties of the job

You will join our highly motivated, friendly and supportive specialist nursing team to deliver effective, timely and person-centred care for patients referred to urology with LUTS and continence issues. You will be trained to provide your own LUTS assessment service and urodynamic clinics in addition to follow up services. Initial training will be provided at Malton Hospital and York Hospital. Following on from this you will be required to deliver services across all hospital sites including Scarborough Hospital and Bridlington Hospital, with a strong element of this work being at your nominated work base site as services develop.

The successful candidate should have an interest in urology and be an efficient and effective communicator with all staff, patients, and visitors. They will be supported to develop their knowledge and skills under the direction of the Urology Lead Nurse and in conjunction with the Urology Consultants and existing Benign Urology Nurse Specialists. They should also be able to identify and respond to patient queries and issues in a sensitive and competent manner. Some experience (or understanding) of urological and continence nursing is desirable but a keen willingness to learn is essential.
