Main duties of the job

The role is responsible for assessing patient care needs, developing appropriate care plans, and implementing and evaluating those plans. The postholder is expected to deliver all aspects of nursing care without direct supervision, while also teaching and supervising both qualified and unqualified staff. Maintaining consistently high standards of care within the department is essential.

  • Work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for individual patients.
  • Deliver care using an individualised, patient‑centred approach.
  • Ensure all patients receive a consistently high standard of nursing care.
  • Participate in admission and discharge planning alongside the multidisciplinary team.
  • Act as a named nurse for allocated patients.
  • Uphold the Trust’s commitment to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
  • Comply with RNOH’s requirement for ID verification using scanning technology for key documents (e.g., passports, driving licences).

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the safe custody and administration of medicines, and escalating any discrepancies immediately.
  • Undertaking extended clinical duties within the unit, as authorised by the Nursing Advisory Committee.
