To work in partnership with the children and young people, families and carers liaising with members of the health and education teams to achieve the maximum outcomes and optimum health and educational achievement for students in Special schools.
To promote health within special schools, to encourage each child or young person to develop responsibility for his/her own health to fulfil their potential.
To undertake training required, becoming clinically competent in providing holistic care for children/young people in a special school setting.
Main duties of the job
To be aware of the importance of professionalism and boundaries when working closely with families
To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the interests of the student and the wider community.
To carry out essential health procedures on students with care, sensitivity and using communication strategies specific to each students needs
To complete episodes of care which are detailed in the student’s health care plan and meet their health needs, escalating any concerns to the line manager.
To be able to write clear, legible reports, clinical notes and review students individual health care plans in line with school and CLCH record keeping policies.
To demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 by contributing to the health, safety and security of individuals in their environment
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Be an effective communicator, using tact and empathy, to ensure that a high standard of care is given to the child and family.
Manage stock levels of equipment within the school, liaising with correct channels for ordering disposable supplies in a timely manner, ensuring there is always sufficient stock available for the nurising team.
Be responsible for the care of electrical equipment, such as blood pressure machines, saturation monitors and scales, ensuring the care and maintenance of such equipment is regulated and they are in good working order.
Following training, be responsible for the continence assessments for children requiring continence products, ensuring assessments are carried out 6 monthly with all paperwork completed and returned to provider
Be responsible for trouble shooting any problems with continence product deliveries for individual children
Maintain accurate clinical records using the documentation processes of SystmOne.
