The post holder is to undertake phlebotomy and cannulation duties throughout the trust from in-patients to out-patients.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

a) Ensure patients are receiving high quality, appropriate phlebotomy and cannulation care within all areas of responsibility. b) Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients before, during and after the venepuncture or cannulation experience. c) Take quality blood specimens for analysis using evacuated collection techniques. d) Cannulate and take blood from inpatients and out patients effectively.

e) Promote the principles of best practice and act as a role model for others. f)  Respond to all bleeps for the cannulation service in a timely manner. g)  Complete all cannulation documentation as required. h)  Input cannulation documentation into iView.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

a) Take responsibility for one’s own personal development, education and development of a Personal Development Plan. b) Participate in the annual staff development review (SDR) process. c) Represent the department through education, developmental and training activities. d)Participate in evening and weekend work as required.

e)Demonstrate commitment to Improving working lives and flexible working patterns, to meet the needs of the service and staff. f) To Meet the needs of the organisation, the post holder may be required to undertake duties at any location within the Trust or satellite services. g) Identify own educational and professional development needs, ensure they are met on an ongoing basis. h) Ensure accurate data is collected and documented for auditing purposes.File and collate department documents i) Participate and assist the service manager to conduct surveys as necessary.
