Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Speech & Language Therapist who is keen to extend their clinical skills in the acute adult acute inpatient setting. You should be experienced in the management of dysphagia and communication impairment across a broad range of disorders. You will be expected to take SLT students on clinical placements with appropriate support from the Universities and SLT colleagues.

Although this role is based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, there will be close working with the team on other trust sites with need for clinical cover at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and potentially Andover War Memorial Hospital when staff are on leave.

We are keen to recruit someone who will promote the Speech & Language Therapy service across the Trust with passion and enthusiasm.  Given the changing demands of working within the NHS, the successful post-holder will need to demonstrate flexibility, an ability to work under pressure and a willingness to become involved in future service development.

We value the development of our staff and there are a wide range of opportunities for training and personal development.  We have an effective, established program of clinical supervision, peer support and in-house education.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a specialist inpatient speech and language therapy service to adults with acquired communication and EDS disorders
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner, in partnership with patients, their families, carers and other health care professionals, to deliver integrated packages of care to adults with acquired communication and EDS difficulties
  • To supervise and train speech and language therapy students, other health care professionals and staff from other agencies who works with adults with acquired communication and EDS difficulties
  • To provide general support and mentorship to less experienced speech and language therapy colleagues working within the adult service
  • To provide clinical supervision and/or line management (as required) to the Band 5 post-holder
  • To offer training to other health care professional colleagues and agencies
  • Accurate use of a number of IT skills to optimise patient care
  • To work bank holidays on a rota basis, agreed with the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will work directly with patients across the hospital sites in general wards and critical care with a range of acute reasons for admission to a hospital site. You will be working with the MDT to optimise their care
