Swindon Intensive Service (SIS) are looking for enthusiastic Band 6 Practitioners (RMN, OT or SW) to join our ever growing Crisis Team.

SIS are a diverse, multi-professional team consisting of Nurses, Social Workers, Therapists and Recovery Coordinators who deliver care to those in mental health crisis in the community. This role focusses on providing appropriate and effective interventions and treatments to people with a range of mental health, enabling and assisting them to meet their personal recovery goals and facilitate engagement with mainstream services. SIS provides a ‘hospital at home’ approach and work conscientiously with their Service Users to promote Recovery within their own home, utilising least restrictive practice at every opportunity.

The team has a motivated and experienced new management team who, along with the excellent practitioners in the team, are introducing some exciting changes. Previous experience in an Intensive Team is not essential; we have many practitioners in the team who have brought their skills from other areas and found them to be transferable to this field.

Main duties of the job

Accepting and reviewing referrals, completion of assessments within the community and general hospital settings for home treatment or gatekeeping for hospital admission. Implementation of Risk Management and Care Plans for the effective home treatment of Service Users utilising least restrictive practice at every opportunity. Medication management and concordance within community. Other duties and responsibilities including inline with job description.

This post is open to newly qualified social workers. In line with AWP trust policy all newly qualified social workers (NQSW) will be recruited initially at Band 5 level, regardless of advertised role banding.  All NQSW’s are expected to successfully complete their ASYE within 2 years of employment, unless there are exceptional circumstances in which case it may be extended for a further 2 years.

If you have been appointed to an advertised Band 6 role this will be an automatic progression, following confirmation of your successful ASYE completion. If you have been appointed to a Band 5 post you will then be eligible to apply for a subsequent Band 6 vacancy upon successful ASYE completion.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Essential knowledge, skills and experience: • Diploma level/Degree in relevant health/social care profession, eg RMN, OT, Social Worker. • Current relevant registration with the NMC or HCPC and commitment to CPD. • Demonstrates substantial post-registration experience gained working in a range of frontline adult mental health services, undertaking assessment and delivering interventions. • Is able to deliver from a range of possible key therapeutic interventions CBT, Psychosocial interventions, Family Interventions, DBT approaches. • Demonstrates a developed understanding of the recovery principles, and the role of secondary mental health services in the delivery of care. • Experience of undertaking carers’ assessments. • Demonstrates substantial experience of, and relevant professional practice qualification in mentoring/assessing students and learners. • Demonstrates substantial experience of assessing risk and developing risk management strategies. • Demonstrates substantial experience of supervising others, monitoring their performance appraisal and ensuring delivery of activity. • Able to articulate a detailed understanding of the relevant legal frameworks/legislation including CPA process, Mental Health Act , Mental Capacity Act, and Safeguarding. • Highly developed verbal communication skills, able to engage effectively with people at all levels even when a more assertive approach is needed. • Highly developed active listening skills, which allow for reframing and testing of understanding. • Highly developed written communication skills, with experience of compiling and sorting notes and reports, establishing statistical data and analysing information.
