Exciting opportunities have arisen for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse secondment to join a fast paced exciting ward within the Division of Medicine and Long Term Conditions Team on Ward 29.
The Short Stay Ward is part of the Acute Care Group and supports the managements of patients with acute conditions and a length of stay of 3 days. The ward works particularly close to the Acute Medical Unit and Ambulatory Emergency Care to support admissions through the Emergency Pathway through the Division.
The ward can on a daily basis manage a high take of patients which brings the exciting fast pace to the unit with exciting opportunities. You will have the opportunity to participate in improvement programmes for the ward as well as inputting to change management as the Ward prides itself on setting and achieving high quality standards of care for their patients.
The Post holder will be the clinical leader for the unit for spans of duty. As the leader you will take responsibility for the clinical management of the unit and the provision of nursing care in conjunction with Senior Sister and Matron. He or She will assist in the supervision and education of qualified nurses and other staff in training.
On a daily basis, you will be required to undertake the provision of nursing care, working closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in what can be a challenging but overall very rewarding environment. You are supported by Ward Manager and Matron as you develop your clinical and managerial skills, knowledge and competencies in leading and supporting junior staff under the span of your duty.
You will need excellent communication skills, have a caring and compassionate nature, and demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop within your role as band 6 sister/Charge Nurse.
You must possess a wealth of experience within the field of acute medicine, or have been working in similar unit. Also to be able to support your colleagues in a team that work flexibly within the shift rotas to meet the demands of the service.

Undertakes the provision of nursing care with support from senior colleagues. May develop the skills and competencies to perform additional skills. Will assist in the supervision of junior nursing staff and, where applicable, the teaching of learner nurses. Will be required to participate in the implementation of audit and quality initiatives. Acts in a manner that upholds the values to the Trust and that of the profession.
