Band: 5
Full time – 37.5 hours per week -Monday – Friday (plus weekend and Bank Holiday roster).
We are looking for Band 5 Occupational Therapists to join our extensive 4 site rotation. Our rotation has increased in size due to the expansion of our services and inclusion of new clinical areas.
You need to be an HCPC registered occupational therapist or in your final year of study and able to commence in post in December 2025 or earlier.
The majority of our rotational posts are of four month duration. We recently reduced our rotations to 4 months as enabling our staff to regularly rotate, engage in new experiences and learn and practice new skills is key to supporting our staff development. You will have the opportunity to work on each of the three hospital sites and (Leicester General Hospital, Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hospital) or Preston Lodge, which allows for different learning opportunities.
Working as a Band 5 in UHL, you will have the opportunity to rotate across a range of diverse specialties in this large acute teaching Trust, these include - acute medicine, emergency floor, stroke (acute and rehab), acute neurology ward, brain injury unit, neuro rehab unit, cardiology, respiratory, trauma, elective orthopaedics, surgery paediatrics and hands burns and plastics (HBP).

Main duties of the job
The OT service has over 120 staff in total, comprising support staff, highly skilled senior therapists, clinical specialists and an established therapy management team.
You will be responsible for managing your own caseload, carrying out functional assessments, treatments and interventions to facilitate safe and effective discharges.
You will demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills, be able to work on your own and within a team.
You will be supported both formally and informally by senior staff and the wider team. We ensure regular clinical supervision, one to one meetings and have a robust appraisal process and preceptorship programme.
The service is passionate about research and service development. Each clinical team also has a local in-service training schedule, addressing the particular learning and development needs of staff within that team. We have a successful Preceptorship Programme within UHL for all newly registered staff or those returning to the HCPC register. These posts are also subject to a training agreement, whereby the successful candidates will be expected to fulfill all core competencies within the first six months of employment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and promote effective professional working relationships with other disciplines and members of the Occupational Therapy Team.
- Be responsible for managing a clinical caseload from assessment to discharge/transfer of care within defined protocols, in order to facilitate a timely and safe discharge from hospital.
- To liaise with Social Services, NHS Community Occupational Therapists and other community agencies with regard to provision of equipment, treatment and/or support for patients on discharge.
- To be aware of medical and therapeutic developments affecting the Occupational Therapist's role.
- Carry out all professional duties in accordance with the code of professional conduct as issued by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
