Job overview

This 2 year fixed term training contract will lead to a level 3 pharmacy technician qualification and the successful candidate will become a registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

They will be required to undertake distance learning, and participate in a comprehensive in-house training programme provided by the team where they will have the opportunity to rotate through the different areas within Pharmacy. Alongside on-the-job training, apprentices spend a minimum of 6 hours per week of their working hours completing classroom-based learning.

The successful candidate must be dynamic, self-motivated, willing to work hard, learn from a multidisciplinary team and be a team player, with proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.  Excellent communication and IT skills, attention to detail and the ability to travel between the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust sites is essential.

Trainees are expected to work towards the attached job description and should not be expected to perform the full duties of the role until competencies are signed off. The pharmacy trainee will learn about pharmacy services, under the guidance, direction, control or supervision of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other staff to practice the skills of a qualified pharmacy technician.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake a 2 year comprehensive training and educational programme whilst working towards gaining the pharmacy technician qualification. This will enable registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) on successful completion and practice as a qualified pharmacy technician within the United Kingdom.

The candidate is expected to maintain sufficient progress and meet the requirements of learning agreements which will be signed and agreed, by the trainee, the educational provider and the workplace. Rotations will allow training, experience, competency assessment in many aspects of hospital pharmacy under the supervision of registered pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.

Working hours are 37.5 per week, inclusive of hours worked as part of the weekend and late duty, on a rotational basis. The candidate will be expected to cover a bank holiday shift once each year and will be required to complete rotations across the sites at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. Annual leave entitlement will be as per Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions
