An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Occupational Therapy Team as a Band 4 Occupational Therapy Technician within the well-established Community Resource Teams. We are looking for a motivated, dynamic, confident person with experience of working in an NHS community setting.  The Team focuses on supporting people to maintain independence at home. The successful candidate will be based across two sites (Whitchurch and Llanrumney) and will also provide cover across the wider Cardiff area as required.

The post-holder will be required to be a driver with a valid UK driving licence and daily access to a car.  There is also a small amount of home-based working to complete administration tasks. You will be provided with the support and equipment required to work at home, but internet/Wi-Fi connection is essential.

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapy Technician within the Cardiff Community Resource Team, you will be working with the Occupational Therapists to implement and manage aspects of the Occupational Therapy treatment programme in consultation with Patients/families/Caregivers and other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team. This will include working with people in their own home with the aim of restoring their functional ability,  assessing for standard aids with guidance of the Occupational Therapist, carrying out routine administrative duties as per departmental policies and many other tasks including involvement in waiting list management and providing training.

The Team provide a seven-day service with a weekend and bank holiday rota in place, which the successful candidate will participate in.  Sound IT skills will be required.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assist and contribute to the therapeutic care delivery to patients in the Occupational Therapy service under the direction and supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist.

The post holder will be expected:

  • To take responsibility for implementing and managing aspects of the Occupational Therapy treatment programme in consultation with service users and/or carers/key workers e.g. prepare and plan group and/or individual therapeutic activity.
  • To use specialised technical/creative skills to manage and provide a flexible, client centred programme of therapeutic activities for individuals/groups of clients aimed at restoring functional ability in hospital and community settings, across specialities working and with other professional groups/agencies.
  • To assess for standard aids with guidance of the Occupational Therapist
  • To work as part of the Occupational Therapy team.
  • To promote independence, health and well-being and safety in hospital or community settings.
  • To carry out routine administrative duties as per departmental policies.
