To assist the clinical, nursing, and operations teams in the Emergency Department (ED) in managing efficient patient flow through the department.
To support and encourage a proactive approach to patient flow throughout the ED, identifying and assisting in the resolution of patient pathway bottlenecks in order to maintain strong emergency access key performance indicators.
Conduct an hourly ED assessment and communicate potential breaches and delays to nursing and operational staff.
Communicate with the nurse-in-charge about any patients who need to be admitted to the ward and inform the bed and site teams as soon as possible.
When a concern about a patient's release or admission to a ward is raised, communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team, escalating to the Matron and/or Operations Manager as needed.
To establish positive working connections with medical teams in order to complete discharge summaries and Tablets to Take Away (TTAs) in a timely manner.
Maintain a visible presence on the ED shop floor to ensure that actions are carried out.
Anticipate and avoid bottlenecks so that ambulances can be offloaded in a timely manner.
