2026 is an exciting time for the Alder Hey Specialist Palliative Care Team as we look to expand our nursing team.
The nursing team is currently comprised of the Lead Nurse and 2 band 7 specialist nurses, we are recruiting an additional band 7 specialist nurse and 2 band 6 associate specialist nurses to complete the team.
We work alongside a team of 5 palliative care consultants, a Grid trainee and SpIn (Special Interest) trainees.
The post will be required to deliver the highest quality palliative, end of life and bereavement care to babies, children and young people within Alder Hey and across Cheshire and Merseyside and the wider North West region.
Our team values centre around kindness and compassion to each other, our professional colleagues and most importantly the children and families we support.
We provide a 7 day service and a 24/7 on call service to enable families to be supported in their preferred place of care at end of life, including a medical on call. This requires all members of the nursing team to participate in the on call rota.
We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic nurses who are passionate about providing the best possible care. A desire to consider how we can be better is essential and this requires people who value self and team improvement.

We are looking for compassionate individuals to fill these exciting and challenging positions and work as associate specialist palliative care nurses to lead, co-ordinate and deliver palliative and end of life care to children and young people aged 0-19 years, and bereavement care to their families. Care is provided in a variety of settings including the home, hospices or in a hospital. The associate specialist nurse will need to work closely and foster good relationships with all members of the child’s multi-disciplinary team and with colleagues from health, social care and education.
The post holder will be a qualified children’s nurse with experience of palliative care
