Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person, with recent administrative/secretarial experience, to join our Elderly Medicine  Secretarial Team at York Hospital to provide support to the medical secretaries and their consultant teams.

Please note this vacancy is for a specific shift to cover service needs.  Shifts are Thursday and Friday only, working hours 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm.

Main duties of the job

Excellent administration/secretarial skills and audio-typing skills are vital, A minimum of six months experience as well as a good understanding of customer relations since regular contact is required to deal with queries from patients, consultants, and GPs.

You will be responsible for typing clinical and administrative letters, answering telephone enquiries, general administration tasks, as well as covering the Medical Secretaries during periods of absence.

The successful candidate will be required to work well under pressure, with the ability to prioritise the demands of a busy office and manage their time and workload effectively.

You will also be required to work unsupervised and communicate with the Elderly Medicine Consultants on a regular basis.  A good, accurate typing speed is essential, and a knowledge of medical terminology would be an advantage.  You will work closely with clinical and non-clinical staff with a patient centric approach.  Previous/current NHS experience would be an advantage.
