The post holder will be part of the Weight Management Service within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB). This service provides dietetic and psychological interventions to adults living with obesity. The post holder will support the provision of psychological assessment and intervention within the Weight Management Service. Assessments and interventions delivered by the post holder will be under the supervision of qualified Practitioner Psychologists located in Weight Management Services.
While the post is based in St Cadoc's Hospital, the post holder may need to travel across localities within ABUHB.
Professional support and clinical supervision will be provided and opportunities for peer support are also available through the Clinical Health Psychology Specialty and wider psychology network.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Clinical Duties • To support the clinical and consultation work of the clinical psychologists as directed by the appropriate clinical psychologist • To undertake psychological assessments as delegated by a qualified psychologist • To undertake a range of skills-based or protocol-driven psychological therapeutic interventions as delegated by a qualified clinical psychologist • To assist in the development and co-facilitation of psycho-education and nutrition based groups as required • To provide psychological guidance and support to carers and families of patients under clinical supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist • To support the qualified clinical psychologist in preparing material or psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions • To carry out such other duties as the qualified clinical supervisor may reasonably request
Teaching & Training • To prepare teaching materials for the provision of training to other professional staff and agencies as directed by the qualified clinical psychologists • To assist in the provision of training in the use of psychological approaches to other professional staff and agencies as delegated by the qualified clinical psychologists • To develop resources as required by the Weight Management Service
Research and Evaluation • To participate in clinically relevant research, service evaluation and audit projects as delegated by the clinical psychologists • To provide clinical psychologists within the service with information regarding clinically effective interventions by competently undertaking literature reviews • To conduct ongoing assessment and monitoring of clinical outcomes under the supervision of the clinical psychologists, in order to evaluate current interventions and improve services
Administrative • To be responsible for administrative tasks relating to clinical work including keeping case notes and preparing written reports in line with the Policies and Procedures of the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board • To manage diary to ensure competent time management and completion of clinical work, research, professional development and attendance at meetings • To carry out additional routine administrative tasks that may be required
Professional Development • To participate in regular clinical supervision (at least 60 minutes every week) receiving close professional support appropriate to the assistant grade and in accordance with professional guidance frameworks of the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board • To meet with professional supervisor with a view to constructing, reviewing and up-dating a Personal Appraisal Development Plan (PADR) • To receive on-the-job training in psychological skills as required for the post and undertake appropriate Continuing Professional Development activities as agreed within the PADR • To participate in the Weight Management Service CPD sessions. • To work within the framework of the policies and procedures of the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board
General Duties • To be flexible to the needs of the Service • To maintain good communication with other staff, managers, departments and the general public • To actively participate in the duties of the department as required
