An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to work  within Adult Mental Health and with clients who are experiencing Psychosis.  The role offers a valuable opportunity for someone with a strong first degree in psychology, plus relevant experience, to further progress their career. Supervised and working alongside  a clinical/counselling  psychologist in the team, the post is highly suitable for a candidate who aspires to pursue further training in clinical psychology and other psychological therapy professions.

The Assistant Psychologist post offers an excellent opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in clinical/counselling psychology, within a broader NHS.  You will have  regular individual supervision from a Psychologist in the team.

About the location:

You will be based full time at Heather Close,  closed to centre Lewisham and near to bus and train station.

Our Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). We also provide services and operate across other locations, such as London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; and substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Lambeth, Greenwich and Wandsworth.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist practitioner psychologists in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in the in-patent service.
  • To provide clinical work as required by the service, under the direct guidance, close clinical and professional supervision of a practitioner psychologist.
  • To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
  • To work following clinical guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, while closely supervised and regularly seeking help from clinical/professional supervisor or manager.
  • To assist in the collection and analysis of data related to the Heather Close Rehab service, and in particular provision of psychological therapies.
  • To coordinate research activity in the Heather Close Rehab service.

Previous  experience of CBT for psychosis and DBT will be highly considered. This would suit a person who already has worked as Assistant Psychologist with  experience of facilitating groups and worked with people who are experiencing psychosis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide psychological assessments and 5P formulations for clients at Heather Close, under the close supervision of a practitioner psychologist.  To provide protocol based individual psychological interventions for clients or carers at Heather Close. To arrange, schedule and provide protocol based group psychological interventions for clients at Heather Close. To assist the psychologists in the development of individual or group clinical materials or training To arrange, schedule and co-facilitate training to carers in order to support the clinical work   To facilitate a range of assessments in line with patients’ level of engagement, facilitate under supervision treatment groups, developing PBS plan for management of challenging behaviours. To facilitate staff support .
