Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist & Panel Coordinator to join Aneurin Bevan Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service (ABSDAS) based in the South team at Newport.  The successful candidate will support the delivery of specialist psychological services to people with co-morbid substance use and other mental, emotional and physical health conditions. The role also involves the coordination of the Co-Occurring Gateway Panel which is a multi-agency professional review panel consisting of senior practitioners in the field of substance use, mental health and housing who monitor and review the management of a small cohort of service users with complex needs.

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual who can work well in a team and independently.

The successful candidate would be joining a friendly and welcoming multidisciplinary ABSDAS team, as well as a thriving and forward thinking psychology speciality.  We enjoy a very good reputation as an energetic and inspiring department with excellent levels of professional support and identity and provide a regular forum to learn from one another and develop your ability as a reflective scientist-practitioner.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will deliver low intensity psychological interventions, conduct observations, engage service users and assist the qualified Psychologists with assessments and interventions.

The successful candidate will support the work of the qualified psychologists and psychological therapy team by undertaking audit and evaluation, assisting with teaching, training and service development projects.

The successful candidate will be required to travel across the Newport and Caerphilly areas to provide assessments and interventions in service users own homes or in a clinic, and to assist with teaching and training locally and sometimes further afield. Therefore, the ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential.  Telephone and on-line support/training will also be a requirement of the post.

The successful applicants will benefit from high levels of support and high quality supervision throughout.   There is plentiful opportunity for informal contact with peers and with qualified staff.
