The Assistant Practitioner (maternity) will work as an active member of the multidisciplinary team and have responsibility for their own practice and behaviours. In the ward setting they will be allocated their own caseload of patients by the registered midwife and will be expected to work independently, holistically assessing individual needs, planning, and prioritising their caseload. They will implement evidence-based care, evaluating the outcomes of that care under the minimal supervision of the registered midwife. The post holder will provide advanced support for the midwife in providing woman-centred care in the postnatal setting, under the supervision of the midwife.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic assistant practitioner to join our team and undertake a midwifery conversion to become an assistant practitioner (maternity). The role is based on postnatal/transitional care settings. The post is potentially working across The James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital.
Interested applicants should demonstrate the transferable skills required to effectively work alongside the midwifery team as well as:
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and team working2. Evidence of involvement in service development 3. Good working knowledge of IT systems
The assistant midwifery practitioner will be expected to work within defined Trust policies, procedures competencies. They will develop treatment plans for patients creating a safe, caring environment that provides privacy, dignity, and respect for the patient.
The assistant midwifery practitioner should at all times act in the best interests of patients. They should demonstrate the Trust Values and Behaviours, the Trust Code of Conduct and the nursing and midwifery 6C’s.
The post holder will be expected to develop their knowledge and skills within the speciality and will assist in the management and development of compassionate, high quality patient care. They should support and help drive the quality improvement agenda and change within the working area.
