Job overview

Work as part of the Diabetic Foot Ulcer team under the supervision and with the support of the Consultant Podiatrist, assisting qualified podiatric staff, clinically and administratively to ensure a quality service is provided in supporting the outpatient wound care clinics and ward based Diabetic foot Ulcer patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Prepare clinical room, equipment and patient for treatment.
  • Carry out initial Neurovascular Foot assessment, swab and photograph wounds.
  • Carry out wound dressings and bandaging in outpatients and wards.
  • Liaise with Principal Podiatrist, Diabetes Consultant and Nursing teams regarding ongoing management
  • Maintain and manage stock levels for the clinic.
  • Assist Patients attending clinic who require support with handling and moving to access their treatment in clinic.
  • Provide education/advice and guidance to other Health Care colleagues on wound dressings and pressure management devices as well as to  patient and their families.
  • Follow agreed departmental guidelines and protocols for patients, work unsupervised, in accordance with a clear and agreed care plan that is delegated by a Podiatrist working as part of the Diabetic Foot team.
