We have an excellent opportunity for a motivated and organised individual to join our Gastroenterology Department as an Assistant Medical Secretary.

In this role, you will provide essential administrative and audio-typing support, working primarily for the Consultant Gastroenterologists and members of their team.

This is a valuable opportunity to develop your skills within a supportive team, and contribute to the smooth running of a busy clinical department.

The role will be predominantly based at Scarborough Hospital (alongside a Medical Secretary and Audio Typist)

This vacancy will be considered for a secondment opportunity. Please note - if you would like your application to be considered for secondment, you must secure agreement from your line manager beforehand that you can be released to undertake the role.

Main duties of the job

  • Apply excellent administrative and audio-typing skills, supported by relevant experience or qualifications.
  • Provide accurate audio typing and prepare clinical correspondence.
  • Support Medical Secretaries across the wider Head & Neck Department.
  • Print, process and distribute patient results letters, ensuring timely delivery to the post room.
  • Manage general administrative and office duties to support the smooth running of the service.
  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise a busy workload effectively.
  • Work confidently and efficiently without direct supervision.
  • Maintain regular communication with the medical secretary team.
  • Uphold high standards of confidentiality and professionalism in all tasks.
  • Engage in available training and development opportunities.
  • Contribute positively to a supportive and motivated team, with flexible working options available where appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with patients maintaining a professional and confident telephone manner
