Are you passionate about safe patient handling and supporting best practice in clinical settings? We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our dedicated team as a Band 5 Assistant Manual Handling Advisor.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient handling and clinical care, but also someone who is keen to develop in other areas of moving and handling supporting and advising colleagues in non-clinical areas. You will work alongside our Manual Handling Advisors to promote safe moving and handling practices across the organisation, supporting staff through training, assessments and hands on guidance.

The Manual Handling Team provide a broad range of information and support to clinicians in the handling of patients with complex needs alongside best practices, providing advice to all staff in the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal conditions.

The post holder will be required to liaise with a wide range of healthcare professionals within the organisation and much be confident and competent when liaising with staff of various abilities and will be expected to deliver Moving and Handling training within a classroom environment and in clinical areas.

The Manual Handling Team work on multiple sites and the post holder must be able to travel/work between sites.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the delivery of manual handling training sessions for clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Support risk assessments and audits related to patient handling.
  • Provide on-the-spot advice and coaching in clinical areas.
  • Contribute to the development and review of manual handling policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Deliver manual handling induction and update training.
  • Deliver specialist manual handling training as and when appropriate.
  • Assist with revision and updating of manual handling training packs
  • To be responsible for own personal education and development and take every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge.
  • To ensure that best practice is disseminated, and areas of weakness are highlighted across Divisions.
  • Successfully challenging/influencing the attitudes, behaviours, entrenched beliefs of staff and patients in relation to moving and handling.
  • Supporting clinical areas with bariatric patient and other complex care planning scenarios where solutions are required
  • To promote manual handling across the Trust.
  • Assist Manual Handling Advisor/Coordinator in ensuring that the Trust meets all its statutory requirements in respect to manual handling.
  • Identify situations that require to be escalated to manual handling advisors
