Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated person to join our growing team of Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians. The post holders will be involved in a broad range of activities in the Aseptic Services Unit of the Pharmacy, which will be the primary base.

The purpose of this role is:

To supervise the day to day activities of the rotational and permanent technical staff working in the ASU.

To ensure that all staff conform to required standard of Quality Assurance and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and work in accordance with validated and approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times

To participate in the aseptic dispensing of chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, parenteral nutrition and radiopharmaceuticals.

To assist the Lead Aseptic Services Technician in the training of all staff working in the ASU.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the delivery of a safe, effective and efficient aseptic dispensing service in accordance with the SOP’s of the unit. Working under the direction of the senior technical staff.
  • Comply with all requirements for environmental monitoring in the aseptic unit, including sessional monitoring, daily monitoring, weekly monitoring and less frequent monitoring as outlined in aseptic unit procedures.
  • Carry out the essential regular quality assurance program according to SOP’s and complete accurately any required paperwork.
  • Complete daily and sessional records of room air pressures, room temperatures and fridge temperatures. Alerting senior members of the aseptic services team of any measurements which are outside accepted limits.
  • Undertake regular cleaning of the aseptics unit according to SOP’s. This involves daily, weekly and monthly intensive specialist cleaning.
  • Generate worksheets and labels for a range of aseptic products, ensuring that all items used are booked out on the pharmacy system according to departmental procedures and assist with the maintenance of correct stock levels.
  • Assemble ingredients for items to be made according to the worksheet and SOP’s, noting down accurately batch numbers and expiry dates, checking for any particles, discolouration or breakages.
  • Preparing or supervising the aseptic preparation of chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies and radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with SOPs and GMP.
