Job overview

Are you passionate about healthcare and eager to start a rewarding career in podiatry? We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Podiatry Apprentice!

Join us at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust (OHFT), train to become a qualified Podiatrist and gain a BSc (Hons) Degree in Podiatry whilst you work!

The Podiatry Apprenticeship programme combines clinical employment, work based learning, and academic learning.  It is a fully funded route towards qualification as a HCPC registered Podiatrist.

You will work within one of our 6 Community Podiatry Teams across Oxfordshire, including locations such as Oxford City, Banbury, Witney, Abingdon, and Wallingford. You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the role of a Podiatrist through practical experience and academic learning provided by the University of Plymouth. You will be employed as an Apprentice Podiatrist at Oxford Health and will work as part of a dedicated Podiatry team within a range of locations and be provided with dedicated time to study for a degree in Podiatry. The apprenticeships will be aligned to University of Plymouth and will be taught at the university campus. You will spend 3 days working in a clinical team, 1 day attending online university studies and 1 day attending a facilitated education session at an Oxford Health base alongside your peers on the apprenticeship programme.

Main duties of the job

The Oxfordshire Community Podiatry Service provides podiatric care to those high risk patients that fall within our eligibility criteria in both clinical environments and the home. The main specialisms of care within the Service include:

  • At/High Risk Foot care

As an employee of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, you will demonstrate our values, and once you have completed all the requirements for registration as a qualified Podiatrist, you will be supported to apply for Band 5 vacancies within the Trust.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing foot care to patients, assisting in minor surgery sessions
  • Delivering person-centred care in both clinical and community settings
  • You will also gain experience in various clinical areas, including diabetes, rheumatology, biomechanics, tissue viability, nail surgery, and wound management

You will be joining a dedicated podiatry team providing expert care to improve patients quality of life. You will be patient facing from the very start - so that you can apply and develop your new knowledge and skills with increasing confidence.

Applicants must demonstrate they meet the following academic criteria before applying:

  • GCSE minimum at grade C/4 in a science subject

Interviews will be held at an Oxford Health base, date and venue TBC. Candidates will be required to attend the recruitment day in person for a full day. We are unable to offer alternative dates.
