
The post-holder will be employed by the Trust as an Apprentice in Operating Department Practice and undertake degree level study, demonstrating the Apprentice standard as set by the Institute for Apprenticeships (IFA) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards of proficiency. Upon completion of the degree level study, the apprentice will be eligible to apply to the HCPC and work under the protected title of Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). The apprenticeship will encompass teaching blocks at University and clinical placements (across the ULHT sites), the work-based learning will encompass anaesthetics’, intra-operative and the post anaesthetic phases of care. The university will be selected and commissioned by the Trust.
The main duties of the job include;
1) Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate own workload organising equpment and resources to meet the service demands.
2) Liase with members of the multidisciplinary team.
3) Prepare and organise clinical work areas, receive patients and ensure own practice is current and evidence based.
4) Act as a patient advocate respecting autonomy and confidentiality.
5) Continue professional development throughout their study at University.
6) Comply with IPC code ensuring all practice supports infection prevention.
7) In conjunction with senior staff, will participate in the setting, monitoring and evaluation of standards of care for patients.
8) Demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance through everyday practice.
9) To undertake any other appropriate additional duties, as required by the needs of the service.
