An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 (minimum 2 years experience) midwife to work within the Antenatal and Newborn Screening team.  The role requires knowledge and understanding of the Public Health England national antenatal and newborn screening programmes.  The advert is for apart time position of 23.45 hours.  Working hours will be Monday to Friday, varied shifts between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. we require candidates who are interested in all aspects of the antenatal and newborn screening programmes.

The post holder will support the NUH trust Antenatal and newborn screening coordinators who are responsible for the delivery of the national antenatal and newborn screening programmes.  The post holder will be involved in audit, practice change and development, support with national and local data collection, quarterly KPI and annual data submissions, contribute to annual reports, education and training of registered and non registered staff members, monitor and action national screening programme failsafes and attend national and local meetings.

the role of antenatal and newborn screening midwife is a varied role requiring specialist knowledge.  The post holder will be able to support with counselling and obtaining consent from women and parents for the antenatal and newborn screening programmes offered.  They will be responsible for the counselling of women following a positive or high chance result after screening tests or  unexpected findings of the fetus on the dating or anomaly ultrasound scan.  The post holder must have the ability to contribute to the effective communication between different members of the multidisciplinary team, including hospital and community midwives, obstetricians, neonatologists, paediatricians and specialist nurses.  The post holder will be expected to work across both City and QMC campuses, varied shifts beween 0800 hrs and 1800 hrs Monday-Saturday.  The post holder will: assist the antenatal and newborn screening coordinators to support women with a positive infectious disease screening result, syphilis, Hep B and HIV and the submission of national data requirements.   The post holder will be involved in the training of midwives and student midwives, encouraging their professional development and clinical supervision to maintain and develop research based skills.  The post holder will also assist with the development and implementation of agreed policies, be able to initiate change and develop practice in response to the needs of internal and external customers, actively seek patient feedback of maternity care at NUH and use this information to build the quality of services provided. They will also assist with the annual antenatal and newborn screening patient satisfaction survey, contribute to active risk reduction and ensure quality control of the care provided at NUH.  They will also contribute to the effective communication between different members of the multidisciplinary team, work flexibly as a member of the screening team and support the ward and community midwives to ensure standards are being maintained, evaluated and where necessary improved.  They will also be responsible for reporting incidents as per NUH and NHSE guidance, to action recommendations and inform NUH staff of the learning outcomes and changes to practice.
