Medical Physics provides scientific and technical support to a wide range of clinical and laboratory services in the Trust and to many external clients. With a large staff of scientific and technical personnel, and good facilities, the Department provides advice and support in applying physical science and engineering to a wide range of techniques and facilities in health care. The Radiation Safety and Radiology Physics group provide services to multiple Radiology, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, PET and Radiotherapy services including those within GSTT. This post will act as co-lead in the area of Radioactive substances although some involvement in other areas is possible.
You will be working in the Radiation Safety and Radiology Physics Section of the Medical Physics Department and primarily based at the Guy's Hospital site, although you may lead work at any of the Trust locations and for a range of external contracts. The Radiation Safety and Radiology Physics team comprises of experienced scientists and technicians whose aim is to ensure the quality, safety and effectiveness of the use of radiation on patients in healthcare.
The main duties of this role are to co-lead the work of the section in all aspects support to radioactive substance safety.
This role is expected to act as lead RWA. RPA and Nuclear Medicine MPE qualifications are highly desirable in a candidate. The postholder would likely be involved in providing MPE support for Nuclear Medicine for an external client. Additionally the postholder would work closely in support of the GSTT Nuclear Medicine team and KCL PET centre team. The successful candidate will have detailed experience of advising on compliance with the Environmental Permitting Regulations. Experience of design of laboratories and radionuclide facilities (such as radionuclide therapies) would be an advantage. The postholder will undertake line management functions.
