We are looking for a skilled and experienced individual to take on the role of the Band 8a maternity leave cover for a 12-month period covering Surgery.

This role requires strong leadership, excellent organisational skills and a keen ability to manage complex patient flow processes across the speciality areas.

The successful candidate will oversee clinical pharmacy services for the Surgical Directorate, ensuring the highest standards of care, patient experience, and operational efficiency across services.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as a clinical expert delivering specialist pharmaceutical care and advice.
  • Deliver a clinical pharmacy service to Surgical wards at GGH.
  • Participate in consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Practice as an independent prescriber within scope of expertise, supporting patient-centred care and timely medication access.
  • Conduct medication reviews and contribute to patient education and discharge planning.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based policies, procedures and prescribing guidelines aligned with national and local frameworks.
  • Monitor and analyse drug expenditure across the Directorate. Identify cost-saving opportunities and promote cost-effective prescribing practices.
  • Contribute to the education and training of pharmacy staff, medical staff, nursing teams and other healthcare professionals within the directorate.
  • Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including supervision of pharmacy students, trainee pharmacists and foundation pharmacists during clinical rotations.
  • Supervise junior staff in quality improvement and audit activities.
