Job overview

Applications are invited for an Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner post in paediatric transport for the PaNDR service.

The PaNDR (Paediatric and Neonatal Decision Support and Retrieval) is a leading provider of transport services for the East of England delivering critical care for infant’s children and young people who require transfer to specialist units.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner (APNP) to join our dedicated transport team. This is a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on the lives of children by providing high-level clinical care during transport.

As a member of the tier 2 rota there is an expectation of leading emergency transfers, with consultant support by telephone. You will need to have experience as an APNP with independent prescribing qualifications. Freedom to act and with competence is essential to being successful and safe in the role. You will be required to perform advanced clinical procedures, manage acute conditions, and liaise with medical teams at the receiving hospital. This is a challenging but rewarding role that requires the ability to make quick, informed decisions and to provide excellent clinical care in an often-unpredictable setting.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the clinical experience gained, this post is ideal for those wishing to develop their skills in logistical planning, prioritisation and trouble-shooting. All are encouraged to undertake quality improvement projects and utilise their teaching skills through outreach visits, education programmes and simulation training.

Main duties

The post holder will have a key role in ensuring that PaNDR delivers the commissioned service and meets the associated key performance and quality indicators. As a member of the tier 2 rota there is an expectation of primarily being the medical lead in emergency transfers, with consultant support by telephone. You will need to have experience as an ANP with independent prescribing qualifications. Freedom to act and with competence are essential to being successful and safe in the role. It will be necessary to manage complex transfers using professional judgement, safe decision making and discretion to ensure the best outcomes for the patient, family and colleagues. There will also be times where it is necessary to flex to act in a nursing role or as a single clinician on transfer. As a member of the senior team there is a professional responsibility to develop other staff, the service and the parent experience by engaging in educational and governance activities.
