Job overview

We are looking for a JAG (Joint Advisory Group) accredited Clinical Endoscopist to join our team. Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust have recently extended and opened a new Endoscopy facility which includes a South West Endoscopy Training Academy facility.

The Clinical Endoscopist role is an autonomous practitioner in their field, providing an expert endoscopy service in upper and lower gastrointestinal procedures.  As an advanced clinical practitioner, the role will support the provision of safe, effective and efficient care, including the management of a caseload of patients. The post holder will be expected to work as a highly skilled practitioner and to have expert knowledge, providing clinical expertise, leadership and guidance within the endoscopy service.

The post is intended to provide improved outcomes for patients by improving timeliness and consistency of care and driving innovation through new models of care and actively participating in research and development.

Main duties of the job

The role is structured around the Health Education England framework for advanced clinical practice. There are 4 pillars that underpin this practice

  • Clinical Practice: At least 60% of work time is spent on direct patient care. The post holder will independently perform gastrointestinal procedures, including upper, lower, diagnostic and therapeutic. The postholder will deliver high quality care to patients, enable other practitioners to maintain professional expertise and be able to exercise a high degree of personal autonomy within their role
  • Professional leadership and management. The postholder should be able to demonstrate leadership skills which will support and motivate others in order to continuously improve quality of care and standards of practice. They should be a source of expertise and knowledge for others in their specialist fields.
  • Education, training and development. The postholder should be able to contribute to the training and education of endoscopy nursing workforce, trainee endoscopists including nursing and AHP, medical and surgical doctors. The post holder will establish formal links with local education providers within our own training academy and with regional/national providers.
  • Research: The postholder should contribute to the development of professional practice, through the promotion of evidence -based practice and audit of standards of care. They should also have a role within research within their specialist fields.
