Job overview

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Emergency Medicine will work within the Emergency Department independently seeing and treating patients with a variety of undifferentiated presentations. They will arrange appropriate management and treatment plans for patients, including admission to wards and discharge home, whilst working within the guidelines set by the directorate, Royal Colleges and other organisations. They will be responsible for the supervision and training of trainee ACP’s. They will contribute to departmental governance and audit, and provide leadership and education to all levels of staff within the department.

Main duties of the job

CLINICAL / DIRECT CARE PRACTICE

To practice autonomously with a high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level in the direct delivery of high quality care, making critical clinical decisions based on advanced clinical skills assessment.

Plan and manage complete episodes of care, working in partnership with others and delegating and referring as appropriate to optimise health outcomes and resource use, as well as providing direct support to patients and clients.

LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE

To provide clear leadership and direction to support both the medical and nursing teams acting as a role model for the Trust, presenting a positive image to patients and staff.

EDUCATION (developing Self and Others)

Advocate and contribute to the development of an organisational culture that supports continuous learning and development, evidence-based practice and succession planning.

RESEARCH AND INNOVATION (improving quality and developing practice)

Critically engage in research activity, adhering to

good research practice guidance, so that evidence based

strategies are developed and applied to enhance quality, safety, productivity and value for money.
