As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services within our Haematology team.

You must have a relevant IBMS Specialist diploma or equivalent qualifications or equivalent experience. Applications may be accepted from HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who are currently progressing through the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology or Blood Science. Successful candidates that have not yet finished the portfolio will be paid on AfC Band 5 based on their experience at that grade, until completion and successful assessment and award of their qualification by the IBMS.

An on-site practical assessment will be required as part of the recruitment process and there is an expectation that the post holder will participate in the delivery of a 24/7 laboratory service.

Main duties of the job

• To perform the initial screening and further investigation of specialist diagnostic test producing complex quality diagnostic results in order to aid patient treatment and care and authorise the results as directed by departmental procedures and guidelines. •    To use knowledge, interpretive skills, complex analysers and IT in order to deliver Blood sciences Service to our users. •    Supervises and/or trains less experienced staff in own area of work and competency. •    To maintain competence through CPD. •    To work flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24 hour, 7 day per week service. •    Maintain and promote professional image of both Pathology and CUH Trust. •    To work safely as the job entails coming into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals.  This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions. •    NB: Post holder must not work outside their defined field of competence
