Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic psychotherapist to join the Adult Psychology Service.

As part of the Dorset Adult Psychology Service, you will work with other friendly and dedicated psychologists/therapists to provide specialist psychological services for Poole CMHT in Dorset.

The role is diverse and allows opportunities to develop your own individual therapy skills, work on service development, continue with your professional development, and work with a range of really skilled professionals who are all passionate about working with adults.  Clinical work covers a whole range of different problems with which patients may present, as well as skilled and often complex assessments.    Consultation and supervision of other professionals from within the wider MDT is a supported part of our role.

This is a fixed term post for a year, up to 19 hours per week and is based at Poole Community Mental Health Team, Alderney Hospital, Poole.

This is a fixed term role and for those with current NHS service, the role will be offered on a secondment basis only.  Please obtain permission to be released on a secondment before submitting an application.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of.  Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Main duties of the job

Skilled in assessment, formulation, and in the delivery of appropriate highly specialised programmes of care, including psychological therapies, where highly complex facts must be considered, and where expert opinion may differ.

Provide specialised advice to clients, their families and carers where appropriate, and to staff of the community team and other organisations involved in care.

The therapist will support patients sitting under Poole Community Mental Health Team who are also under The Adult Psychology Service.

The highest communication and relationship skills are necessary to engage and maintain relationships with clients, families, carers, and other professionals where there are often significant barriers to acceptance and engagement in psychological therapy.

The therapist will be responsible for developing highly specialised programmes of care. Judgements need to be made involving highly complex facts or situations, which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

For the main duties and responsibilities for this role please read the attached job description and person specification.  When completing your application please ensure your supporting statement reflects the criteria set out in these documents by showing how your experience and skills apply to this post.

We understand that using AI can be a useful and supportive tool when completing your application.  However, we have also seen an increase in the over-reliance of AI tools which is negatively impacting applications as they remove candidate’s individuality, and it becomes much harder to get a sense of who you are and your authentic experience.  If you do use AI, it should be used to enhance your application and not to create your supporting statement in its entirety.  If we suspect you have used AI to create your supporting statement and this does not match your experience, we may withdraw your application.
