The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, London Programme Hub, based at Northwick Park & St Marks Hospitals, serves a population of approximately 9.7 million within the London Clinical Commissioning Group and coordinates the activities of up to 8 Screening Centres across the capital.

We are seeking to recruit into the position of Administrator Helpline Operative/MLA, a highly motivated and well-presented individual.

Applicants for this post will be organised, possess excellent written and spoken English communication skills and demonstrate a willingness to be trained.

The Hub has four modalities (Helpline, Print Room, Administration and Laboratory) and staff will be expected to rotate, train and work in each modality depending on service requirements.

Main duties of the job

Provides information and support to people calling the national enquiry helpline. Answers general telephone enquiries and performs visitor reception duties.

  • Liaises with colleagues and other health professionals in other Hubs, screening centres, GP practices by telephone and in person as required.

Performs sample reception duties including receiving, sorting, organising and logging of samples and recording information on the Bowel Cancer Screening System (BCSS)

  • Prepares simple solutions, reagents and quality control materials.

Transfers data files to external mail fulfilment and downstream mailing producer.

  • Distribution of letters, leaflets and test kits to screening subjects.
  • Maintains stocks of supplies ensuring adequate supplies of general office items.
  • Undertake any other duties, including photocopying and distribution of information as and when required.
  • Clean equipment and report any deficiencies or malfunctions to the Programme Hub Manager, whilst maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in line with the Trust Infection Control Policy.

Answers correspondence (letters, emails) with supervision.

  • Responds to enquiries about appointments, dealing with rebooking requests or opt outs.
  • Deals with return undelivered mail, detained estates and third-party test kit requests in accordance with Hub policy
