NHS TAYSIDE

SPECIALTY DOCTOR

ACUTE AND GENERAL MEDICINE AND MEDICINE FOR THE ELDERLY

NHS TAYSIDE

Applications are welcomed by NHS Tayside for permanent Specialty Doctor posts in Acute and General Medicine. The successful candidate(s) will be based at Ninewells Hospital and/or Perth Royal Infirmary.

These posts will commence in August 2026.

Applicants must have successfully completed Foundation training or the equivalent and have a minimum of 4 years postgraduate clinical experience, preferably in relevant specialties.

All posts include:

  • protected development time of up to a half day per week
  • a named mentor
  • experience within acute care environments such as AMU
  • ability to attend local teaching such as for PACES

These posts provide an excellent opportunity for doctors who wish to develop their experience in different medical specialities, gain experience in quality improvement and teaching, or who wish to pursue an alternative career pathway.

The post will involve rotation through acute and general medicine and relevant medicine specialties to gain broad generalist experience including medical high dependency if required. Successful candidates will be supported to develop their roles, aiming to move onto the ST3+ out of hours rota once relevant competencies achieved and will also be encouraged to develop specialist interests within medicine. Support will be provided for those wishing to pursue training equivalence.

In addition, candidates may have the opportunity to expand their generalist training into other specialist medical and surgical areas.

Informal enquiries are welcomed by the service and contact details can be found in the attached job pack.
