Job overview

Join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and play a key role in supporting safe, effective and timely patient flow through our busy Emergency Departments at Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital. As an A&E Patient Flow Coordinator, you will ensure efficient movement of patients from arrival to discharge or admission. You will work closely with clinical teams, bed managers, site teams and external partners to ensure patients follow the most appropriate pathway.

Main duties of the job

  • Delivering exceptional service and patient experience.
  • Be integral to the Emergency Department team and act on the direction of the Clinical Lead and Nurse in Charge to actively support efficient patient flow.
  • Maintain standard of conduct and confidentiality, including data, privacy and Dignity of patients and carers and to act as an ambassador of the Trust and  the Emergency Department.
  • To support the Emergency Department team in duties that enable the clinical leads to effectively support patient flows.
  • Timely and accurate management of each step of the Patient's journey.
  • To be flexible and responsive in support of duties that enable the trust to meet  the challenges of the variable Emergency Department service demands.
  • Admit, transfer, discharge patients as requested.
  • To support in the improvement of UEM KPI metrics.
  • Booking patient transport for patient being discharged home, transferred to other hospital and for outpatient appointments.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of service continuity planning, e.g the processes required in the event of IT system failure and of the Trust Major Incident Policy and procedure for call out of the Emergency Department administration staff.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer care relations by acting in the best interest of the patients and maintaining the inherent dignity and value of each individual.
