The responsibility of the post holder is to take a lead role in the co-ordination, planning, assessment and delivery of individual care needs provided by the multidisciplinary team, ensuring the effective leadership and management of the ward in the absence of the Lead Nurse.
The post holder will promote clinical excellence through his/her practice, participating in evidence-based practice.
The post holder will initiate and manage care of acute medical patients, following agreed protocols and guidelines.
The post holder will actively participate in any service development identified and initiated by the Trust or MDT, under the guidance of the Lead Nurse.
The post holder is expected to lead a team of staff at band 5 and below and take a lead role in facilitating, educating, supervising supporting and developing staff, within their sphere of responsibility.
The post holder will undertake professional development and further management skills under the guidance of the Lead Nurse. They will be expected to undertake aspects of the Lead Nurse role and deputise in their absence.
In conjunction with colleagues, the post holder will be responsible for the physical environment of the workplace. This will include health and safety issues, security and the appropriate safe management of equipment and resources allocated to the area.
The post holder will ensure that all nursing documentation is complete, up to date and in line with NMC and Trust guidelines.
