Job summary

Main duties of the job

Core Responsibilities

Provide direct and indirect care to women and babies under the supervision of a registered midwife

Deliver evidence-based, compassionate care in hospital and community settings

Support families with information, advice and access to services during the antenatal and postnatal periods

Work within Trust policies, guidelines and competency boundaries

Clinical Duties on Antenatal Day services, Barnsley Birthing Centre & Antenatal/Postnatal Ward

Monitor maternal and neonatal vital signs (temperature, glucose, oxygen saturation) and escalate concerns

Assist with planned/emergency caesarean sections, including preparation and neonatal resuscitation support

Provide infant feeding education and support.

Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns or signs of maternal/neonatal ill health

Deliver public health advice (e.g. smoking cessation, mental health, safe sleep)

Support with epidurals, HDU care, aseptic procedures, and cord blood collection

Perform blood tests, glucose tolerance tests, obtain screening consent, and provide patient education

Team & Leadership

Lead a team of clinical support workers on a shift-by-shift basis

Work closely with midwives and the multidisciplinary team to ensure efficient service delivery

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate electronic patient records

Adhere to data protection, infection control, and Trust policies

Complete and maintain competency frameworks and mandatory training
