Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, full time (40 hours per week) post based in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
The fellowship is an exciting position which offers the opportunity to acquire and develop skills in the peri-operative management of surgical patients requiring major intra-abdominal procedures.
The fellowship facilitates both practical and theory learning in anaesthesia for transplantation (liver, combined kidney /pancreas and kidney transplantation ), hepato-biliary , upper GI and bariatric surgery.
Projects in areas of interest will be encouraged and supported. The post is usually post CCT with applications anticipated from senior trainees who may be considering a Consultant career in Transplantation Anaesthesia or anaesthesia for complex intra-abdominal surgery.
This is a busy transplant unit performing liver, kidney and simultaneous kidney pancreas transplants. Elective operating lists includes major cancer surgery for liver, oesophageal, gastric and Pancreatic cancer.. There is an established CPEX and bariatric service supported by the group.
The fellow would also be expected to gain experience in the assessment of patients being referred for transplant and major cancer surgery and contribute to regular MDT meetings.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate would be available for 1 in 5 on call with flexible arrangements possible to maximise practical and academic opportunities. The post falls under the line management of the critical care directorate with Dr Jennifer Service as Clinical Director .
