Information Governance Lead

Job overview

Are you passionate about protecting patient information and driving data governance excellence? Do you thrive on advising, leading, and improving systems that directly support patient outcomes? If so — we want you to be part of our team!

At South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb), we don’t just deliver emergency care — we’re a compassionate, values-driven organisation putting patients first in everything we do. Now, we're looking for an experienced Information Governance Lead to shape and safeguard how we manage data across our service and external partnerships.

Main duties of the job

As our Information Governance Lead, you’ll act as a subject matter expert on all matters relating to data protection, confidentiality, security, and governance frameworks. Reporting to the Head of Information Governance / DPO, you’ll lead crucial projects like the Information Asset Register Programme and oversee the Data Security & Protection Toolkit (DSPT) and Cyber Assessment Framework (CAF) submissions.

You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring that the right people have the right information, at the right time — enabling safe, effective, patient-centred care.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and deliver on information governance strategies, ensuring NHS and legal compliance.
  • Provide expert advice on national and local IG developments.
  • Investigate and manage information governance incidents, breaches and risks.
  • Deliver DPIAs and information sharing agreements with precision.
  • Engage, educate, and train staff at all levels on their IG responsibilities.
  • Deputise for the Head of Information Governance / DPO where required.
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to embed best IG practices.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Information Governance Lead will support the Trust and external organisations as a subject matter expert reporting directly to the Head of Information Governance / DPO.

An Information Governance Lead is responsible for the delivery of specialist Information Governance advice with a focus on national and local developments to enable compliance with the Data Protection Legislation (Data Protection Act 2018 and General Data Protection Regulations 2016) and in addition, application of the Caldicott Principles along with all associated aspects of confidentiality and security.

Lead on the ongoing Information Asset Owner (IAO) / Information Asset Register programme using project management methodology and delivering IAO training.

The role is designed to ensure successful completion and delivery of the Cyber Assessment Framework / Data Security & Protection Toolkit and Information Governance Framework in the NHS, both to external customers and internally to SECAmb staff. The post will require travel to other SECAmb and other partner organisation sites if required.
