To provide managerial and clinical leadership to the X-ray team providing care to patients in the X-ray setting ensuring high quality service delivery

To provide specialist clinical knowledge to the X-ray service using the skills and techniques gained through your practice.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the radiographic service in the X-ray department, Pacing, orthopaedic theatre and mobile X-rays. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and participate in the provision of the radiographic out of hours service.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Responsible for the day-to-day management of the X-ray department, Pacing, orthopaedic theatre and mobile x-rays to ensure service standardisation within the 24/7 day service.
- To take the radiographic lead in the multi-disciplinary environment for service improvement.
- To act as the radiographic clinical expert in their relevant field.
- To communicate closely with lead clinicians thus contributing to the effective running of the service.
- To be responsible for the monitoring and ordering where appropriate of radiology consumables within the x-ray department.
- Liaise with representatives to evaluate new products.
- To participate in multi-disciplinary team working.
- To participate in the rotation through clinical duties and undertake out of hours duties as required.
- Maintain a team of radiographers to a level of competency where they can operate the various areas smoothly in times of the post holder’s absence and are able to provide a first class service.
- To practice within the rules of the Health Professions Council.
- To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all health care professionals about all aspects of patient care.
- To maintain accurate documentation pertinent to the examination.
- Supervision and assistance in training of entry grade student radiographers, assistant practitioners and Radiographers.

RADIATION PROTECTION

- To act as Radiation Protection Supervisor for their clinical area.
- Ensure radiation doses to every patient are as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) consistent with a diagnostic result.
- To work to radiographic protocols and policies as required under the ionising regulations.
- Attendance at radiation protection meetings

CLINICAL GOVERNANCE

- To comply with the Health and Safety Policies of the Trust including attendance at mandatory training sessions as specified.
- To comply with departmental and organisational policies and procedures including reporting of all accidents and incidents.
- To co-ordinate the service maintenance visits for the equipment
- To be responsible for the maintenance of equipment records and reporting of all x-ray equipment faults and call out engineers as required.
- Monitor the condition of equipment within the Radiology area advising of any defects in equipment or systems thus providing an early warning for potential hazards.
- To ensure that potential hazards are identified and reported to the correct authority as necessary.
- To participate in clinical audit as appropriate.
- To attend clinical governance meetings as required
- First line of investigation of complaints.
- To observe patient confidentiality at all times and to comply with the data protection act and Caldicott recommendations.
- All employees of the Trust are required to carry out their duties with due regard to the fair access policy and respect the culture beliefs and customs held by clients and staff.
- To take a lead in the Quality Assurance requirements for the Department.

PLANNING

- To be involved in the planning/design of appropriate areas within the department.
- To be involved in the evaluation and selection of relevant equipment for their area.
- To be involved in Departmental Business Planning

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

- To be responsible for the training and development of radiographers in their clinical area.
- To be responsible for the training of radiography helpers to ensure they have the required skills to complete their daily duties.
- To participate in the recruitment and selection of radiographic staff.
- To attend relevant training courses as identified and agreed with senior staff and managers during staff appraisal sessions.
- To disseminate information from training sessions as required.
- Participate and contribute to the staff development programme and educational activities.
- To act as mentor to junior staff.
- Maintenance of an up-to-date CPD portfolio.
- To participate in departmental appraisal system and appraise junior staff

### Qualifications

- FHEQ Level 6 / BSc / BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent qualification if applicable

- Qualification level ● FHEQ level 7/SCQF level 11
- ● Postgraduate certificate (PgCert)/postgraduate diploma (PgDip) ‘or equivalent qualification if applicable
